"Breeding" This is a Serious Decision
I have Bred Bulldogs Since 1993
These Are Not Fighting Dogs
AKC MEET THE BREEDSŪ: Bulldog
Known for their loose-jointed, shuffling gate and massive, short-faced head, the Bulldog is known to be equable, resolute
and dignified. A medium-sized dog, they are not your typical lap dog, but would like to be! They are one of the most popular
breeds according to AKCŪ Registration Statistics due to their lovable and gentle dispositions and adorable wrinkles. The Bulldog
may be brindle, white, red, fawn, fallow or piebald.
It was one William George who established a kennel, Canine Castle, whose purpose was to improve the breed and gain public
respect for it. In 1864 the first British standard was drafted. In 1874 the official Bull Dog Club was founded in London.
The first dog registered with the club was named Adam. Soon afterwards, Crib was registered, and from this dog modern pedigrees
date. The fighting nature of the bulldog was bred out; courage, tenacity and loyalty were left in.
Make no doubt about it, the "sourmug" is a loving and gentle creature. Quite a change from the 18th century
fighting dog. However, the breed's motto could quite easily be "peace or else." He will be there if you need him.
The bulldog will never go looking for trouble, but will always face it if it comes. The bulldog were specialized fighters,
but not of other dogs. Even today, the bulldog is not aggressive toward other dogs. As far as being a good neighbor, the
bulldog is more desirable than many of the humans we have as neighbors. He doesn't bark, he is a patient and affectionate
playmate for children, especially when the two grow up together. He doesn't demand a lot of grooming or exercise. He is
not a wanderer. The bulldog loves being home with his family. When treated with kindness, this breed flourishes. A better
companion, friend and protector a family couldn't hope for better than the "sourmug", our bulldog.

Bulldog Temperament
We snore, wheeze, drool, belch and fart.
The Bulldog is a docile and mellow dog, it is friendly and loves human attention.
While its looks can be intimidating to those who do not know the breed, the bulldog is one of the gentlest dog breeds.
While it can have a stubborn streak, this dog aims to please its owner.
It is very good with children, and it is usually quite friendly with strangers.

Breeding a litter of Bulldog Puppies is a task to be taken very, very seriously. You are producing life of your own volition
for a wide variety of reasons. Some of those reasons will be good ones, some will not. But this decision should be thought
through very, very carefully. Also, this document should be taken only as a starting point. If after reading this document,
you still want to breed your bitch, I strongly suggest that you get and read at least some of more books (I'll try to be
truthful!)
Before you breed a dog, you need to decide whether or not that dog is an appropriate candidate for breeding. First of all,
no bitch should be bred before the age of 2. They are just not physically mature enough yet. Let them grow up and develop
before they go through the physical strain of breeding, carrying, and whelping puppies. This shouldn't be a problem however,
because you'll be plenty busy during those two years. Your dog will be in preparation for breeding for the first two years
of her life. Everything you do for her, including providing quality nutrition and health care, obedience training, showing,
working, and loving will make her a better mother and help her to produce a healthier litter.
Many people go into breeding thinking that it's a great way to make some easy money. Nothing could be further from the
truth. Done correctly, breeding is rarely a money-making venture. If there are any problems at all , breeding generally becomes
a financial disaster. So, you have to be prepared for possible expenses that may or may not occur.
Bulldogs are not easy to breed. These dogs are very very expensive to raise and it takes constant care and supervision
for 6 weeks. Many many hours of pains taking effort goes into getting them to age 6 weeks. Most are artificially inseminated.
They also require a cesarean birth as most do not free whelp. The mothers can lay on the pups and seems a bit out of it from
the surgery for "at least" the first two weeks. This means you have to get up every two hours to let the pups feed.
Most Dam's won't clean the pups up so you must also do that. You need to be with them around the clock. This may require you
taking leave from work. Hopefully you won't need to supplement feed. This is very time consuming and expensive. Bulldog pups
need a bumpy surface to walk or roll around on. It is difficult for them to get on their feet without it. Washing bedding
will mean several loads a day. The dam will need her bedding changed frequently, also, as she has a bloody discharge for weeks
after giving birth. Weaning pups is a messy period. They walk in their food and must be cleaned up after every feeding. Teething
brings on respiratory problems. The pups get sick, diarrhea, snotty noses, can't breathe. A vet visit is normally required
to get things under control. At six weeks of age you need to worm and vaccinate the pups. More expense. It is now time to
begin the house training. Trying to keep an eye on 8 pups in a yard isn't fun at 3 a.m. The pups are finally 8 weeks old and
ready to sell. You run an ad.
The people that come to see your pups have been to the pet store looking at pups first.
Please spay or neuter your pets and keep your pets up on their shots.
Thank you john
We are very cautious with the Parvo Virus Outbreak
You can loose puppies in a few hours because someone is not cautious and carry it into your house and litter
All hands must be washed and puppy's will not be fondled

Choosing a sire for your litter is as important a decision as choosing your bitch was originally. You need to spend some
time and effort on this decision.

Testimonials

Lilly is doing just fine. She is as mischievous as ever. We now have a large fenced in backyard where Lilly spends most of
her day in and out chasing squirrels. She's way too slow to ever catch one so I'm not too worried. I just have to teach her
to close the door after her now that it's getting pretty cold out there.
About three weeks ago I fell down a couple of the stairs into the basement, while trying to do laundry. Miss Lilly was
down there in a heartbeat. I was really proud of her!
I have tons more pictures to send to you I just have to get them onto the computer, but as soon as I do I will send you
a bunch.
With Love,
Dawn, David, Ashlynn and of course sweet Miss Lilly! Henderson Ky.

Hi!
I'm glad the pictures arrived. She's doing great, and we're just crazy about her. I've already wrapped her "bones"
for Christmas.
I think Abbey still has a lot of puppy in her yet. She still likes to play, play, play when I get home from work, and
she brings me all of her toys. Santa brought her plenty of treats and new chew toys, too, so she's pretty happy. Have
a Happy New Year.
Abbey sends her tail wags.
